What’s the difference between a franchisor and a franchisee?

  • A franchisor is the company or brand that owns a business model and then develops a standard for other entrepreneurs to follow. Any business opened after the original must license with the owner for a fee and agree to follow all the brand standards and standard operating procedures set by the franchisor.
  • A franchisee is an entrepreneur who purchases the rights from the franchisor to open a business that operates according to the franchisor’s proven model and brand, along with all standards, training and support from the franchisor.
