Tailored Living’s 2017 Design Contest Recognizes Franchisee Design Excellence

Everyone likes recognition for a job well done; it’s both satisfying and exhilarating. But not every job or career offers appreciation for hard work and excellence. With the Home Franchise Concepts (HFC) family of brands, good design is a crucial part of success, and HFC Corporate encourages each brand to recognize and reward franchise owners and their teams for exceptional projects. With any of the HFC franchise business opportunities, your hard work will never go unnoticed!

Winning walk-in closet design from Tailored Living of Kelowna, BC, franchise owners Lisa and Vincent Hunter

In March, Tailored Living® announced the winners of the first annual Design Contest where franchise owners submit pictures of their favorite projects. As a Tailored Living franchise business owner, you get to help people change their lives, take pride in a job well done and win awards and accolades.

The 2017 Design Contest featured:

  • Unique spaces like craft/hobby rooms, home offices, entryways and mudrooms

Innovative, creative storage solutions for the whole home

There is no limit to the design potential when you are a Tailored Living business owner. You can be your own key designer, choose to work with local interior designers, or hire sales/design people to build out your team. Innovation in custom design accommodates the unique needs of each client. While the end result may be the same, i.e., a custom pantry, how that plays out in each home is where your creativity kicks in. In the two winning pantry designs below, you can see the differences, yet each is a perfect pantry.

This pristine, minimalist-looking pantry design incorporates a generous amount of work space with a wraparound countertop. A set of light sockets ensures convenient use for any electrical appliances, freeing the kitchen counters of clutter. Tons of storage is available with overhead shelves and lower pull-out, heavy-duty drawers that can hold anything the homeowner needs to store.

This pantry cabinet becomes major pantry storage with adjustable floor-to-ceiling shelves, drawers for small items, pull-out baskets and specialty racks for wine, canned good and spices. The special design and custom hardware on the drawer fronts adds a touch of individual style for the client.

Sometimes you have to work around existing elements that need to incorporate seamlessly into your design. This closet “before and after” demonstrates that the absolute right custom solution makes all the difference in the world. From an open, busy-looking closet with an exposed safe, the winning design puts everything behind closed doors for an upscale, designer look with integrated lighting. The safe is hidden behind closed doors so only the homeowner knows it’s there.

Wardrobe accessory storage is a large part of an organized closet, and this closet design necessitated extreme jewelry storage that was mastered with a tall jewelry cabinet. Custom velvet-lined jewelry drawers are topped with glass inset doors that allow visibility to an extensive collection of necklaces, safely stored on custom pull-out hangers. Never misplace rings and things again.

Multi-tasking, messy teenagers especially need customized space. In this winning design, the bedroom was reworked with a crafts/hobbies/homework station so the occupant now has plenty of space to keep everything organized … and be able to sleep soundly in an uncluttered atmosphere. High fives all around for pleasing a teenager!

Work in partnership with your clients

The Tailored Living in-home consultation business model puts you on-site where your creation will live. You and the homeowner work together to maximize their space while accommodating all the things they need from that space. You are never designing in a vacuum–you work in concert with the client to arrive at the perfect solution. Simple or complex, you bring space design expertise to help them realize their vision.

Garages present lots of room for innovation with garage storage systems. No two people keep the same things in their garages, so every job offers a new challenge. This winning garage design had plenty of space to work with, but they needed really big things stored. A combination of floor-to-ceiling cabinets, Handiwall wall hanging  and specialty racks for bike storage and canoes and kayaks keeps the floor clear and uncluttered so there’s room to park multiple cars and work unencumbered at the custom work bench. The lighter-colored PremierOne® epoxy garage floor coating coordinates with the cabinet colors and reflects light for a true garage lover’s garage!

On a smaller scale, this winning two-car garage is immaculate with custom garage storage cabinets and Handiwall to utilize every inch of storage space in the best way possible. The powder-coated red and slate cabinets pop against the darker garage floor in PremierOne decorative chip on the steps and around the base of the walls. Overhead storage racks will safely store large or seldom-used items, keeping everyday storage handy in the enclosed cabinets.

As you can see, for a creative individual, Tailored Living may be the ideal franchise business opportunity. However, if you want to be your own boss within the growing home improvement industry but are not especially creative, you can build a business to be proud of with a team of salespeople, designers and installers. The annual design contest is open to Tailored Living franchise owners, Design Consultants that work for Tailored Living franchise owners, and installers.

Customer adulation and great Yelp reviews are rewarding, but having recognition by your peers brings a whole other level of satisfaction to your work life and career. HFC works hard to provide the support necessary to make every franchise owner as successful as they want to be, and awards are part of that support.
